We are getting ready to start breeding rabbits. Never would have thought I’d be saying that. It’s actually quite interesting learning about all of the different aspects of breeding and showing rabbits. The coolest part is all the people willing to offer help and advice.
My daughter Michaela fell in love with the Dwarf Hotot after doing a HUGE research project. The coolest thing is she will be turning 9 in June and we have had to ask her quite a few of our questions. By the way, I love home schooling for that reason. Anyway, they are a cute animal. They have a distinctive black band (though I’m learning that there are also other acceptable colors to the bands) around their eyes. They are tiny – anywhere from 2 to 5 or 6 pounds. We are converting our shed into a rabbitry. Had to clear 600 lbs of junk out of it from the people that lived here before. Knock down a bunch of wasp nests. We are looking into putting a window into it and venting. There’s a lot more to this than I had envisioned but it’s been fun learning something with my husband and daughter. Right now we are looking for other breeders to try and get our first two pair. Will post more when we take the next step
